Dear Parents of intermediate and middle school students,

CONFIRMATION begins this Sunday night, April 7th, from 5:00pm-6:15pm.  If you have not signed your student up for this once-of-a-lifetime, all-important, building-block-of-faith, then please, please, please call or email Heath TODAY (heath@fpcjc.org).  I believe CONFIRMATION is the most important process for our students community of faith, as it is the necessary next step of their faith journey, since baptism.  As parents, if you only make your child to do two spiritual things, I would like you to consider Baptism and Confirmation.  I believe this is one of those times that a parent “Tells” their child, “This is something you are doing, because it is so vitally important to your faith journey.”  Please know that your two pastors will help love and guide your child(ren) through this important process.

Why is CONFIRMATION so important?  I would love to talk with you about that all important question, and so we have scheduled a parents meeting with you, for this Sunday night, 5:00-6:15pm.  Most of you have more than one student, so please feel free to only send one parent to the meeting, while the other parent tends the rest of the flock J.  If you are a single parent, and are unable to attend the meeting, please let us know if you have any questions, and we would be delighted to enter into a conversation with you.

If you have any questions before the meeting, concerning the confirmation process, please call me.  I would love to discuss this with you.  I can’t wait to be a part of this life-changing, faith-forming process with your child.

Thank you for taking time to read this email.  Thank you for being so involved in the faith journey of your child, and thank you for being a part of the faith community, here at fpcjc.

Your pastor and friend,

Louis

Here is the latest info on the 1PSM stuff that is happening this week:

Confirmation!

Confirmation begins this Sunday, and every Sunday in April, from 5:00-6:15pm. There will also be a parents meeting at the same time, this Sunday, April 7th. This meeting will help you understand the process and be involved in helping your student have a great confirmation experience. If you haven’t already let me know that your student will be in the class be do so by Friday so that we can be prepared. Thanks!

Sunday Nite Fun Times!

This Sunday we are having a great activity we are calling “To Catch A Spy.” We will leave from the church at 1pm and head to the mall. While there, we will try to catch some 1st Pres people who will be in the mall in disguise. After catching all the spies we will return to the church for a surprise treat that will kick off confirmation in a special way. Please also let me know if you are planning on attending by Friday so that we can be prepared. Thanks!

Summer Trips Deadline!

We have reached the point where we have to finalize the number of spots for our summer trips. We absolutely have to know if your student is going on either of our trips by this Wednesday. If you haven’t gotten your deposit in and you want your student to be able to go please get it to me tomorrow night or they will not be able to go. Thanks!

New Series In Elevate!

Tonight we are starting a new series in Elevate called – “The Invisibles!” Here is what the series is all about:

“Sometimes you can stand in a room or walk down a hallway or sit in a chair and no one notices you. It’s not that you have some type of special ability that makes you invisible—people just don’t see you. They know nothing about you—nor do they seem to want to know anything about you. It’s like you’re not even there, even when you are physically in the room. You’re invisible. The good news is Jesus sees invisible people—even those who never realized they were invisible.”

There is great stuff for you to use to help your student process this series. Just click the Parent Cue tab.
I hope that this post finds all of you doing well. Unfortunately, as I write this I am getting sicker. It is the same symptoms that Gary Arner had earlier in the week. I am afraid that I have caught this from him, and I do not want to pass it around any further. So, I will not be at church tonight.

We will be having Elevate as planned. Richard and Jamie Lowe and Abe Bodkins will be there and will lead as usual. Tonight’s teaching will be a DVD teaching from Erwin McMannus from the Willow Creek Leadership Summit entitled, The Barbarian Way, which is all about living a life that is completely committed to following Jesus. It is all about having a close relationship with Jesus and being able to hear his voice in our life and being radically obedient to what he leads us to do.

We were supposed to have our monthly Student Ministry Committee meeting tonight after Elevate. All parents are invited to attend these meetings. However, because I am sick and won’t be there, we will not have the meeting. We will move it to this coming Sunday night at 5pm in the 1PSM Room.

Even though we are not having a meeting tonight I would like to let you know about a couple of things we were going to address.

First, Our Confirmation Class that is scheduled to begin in April. I have heard from several parents that Monday nights are a bad night to hold these classes. So, I was going to suggest that those classes be moved to Sunday evenings. Please think that over and we will make a final decision on Sunday.

Second, I am hoping to add an activity night on Sunday evenings. These would consist of fun activities with a light devotion. I was hoping to start this Sunday night with a movie night in the 1PSM Room.

So, after our meeting at 6pm we will have our movie night. Bring your kids with you, bring some snacks to share and we will have a great time.

In addition to this we will also look at all of the ministry stuff through the summer.

Thanks for your understanding and for your prayers for me to get better quickly.

Heath

We have rebooted our High School Ministry! Here is how it breaks down program wise:

Vertical! Our high school Bible study now meets on Thursday Nights at 7:45pm in the 1PSM Room.

On 2/16/13 1PSM is hosting our annual Valentine’s Dinner and Dance. This event is our major fundraising project for the year. The money that we raise goes directly to lowering the costs for our summer trips, The Great Escape and The Big Mountain Outreach (Senior High Mission Trip).

We need the help of students and parents to make this event happen. First, we need students to decorate the Fellowship Hall on Friday, 2/15/13 from 4pm till 6pm. We also need the students to set-up the tables before the event, serve the guests during the event and clean up after the event on Saturday, 2/16/13. We also need the students to wear nice black pants and shirts. Second, we need some parents to help supervise the work that the students do. As of posting, we need parents for the following jobs: 2 Parents to be Server Co-ordinators, Two Parents to work the Nursery, 2 Parents to work supervise the older children. 2 Parents to help Supervise the Clean Up.

I want to thank the following Parents who have already volunteered to help: Jennifer and Matthew Jacobs, Amy and Ray Sentell, Wendy and Ray Brock, Chris Loveday, Von Walker, and Debbie Imsande. Please join their ranks, so we can have a great dinner and dance and make our summer trips really affordable for the kids. Thanks!
